Module One/Fundamentals: This offering is the first module of a series of four and has been designed to build strong foundational skills for those are interested in learning safe rope suspension. During this series of classes you will be exploring and learning:

  • Physical & emotional safety, communication, and consent practices

  • Learning a variety of new ties that will allow you to progress to more advanced techniques used in floor play and suspension

  • Technical & conceptual understanding of ties, tension, and technique (“the how we tie”)

  • Body mechanics & mobility

  • Advanced rope handling and management

  • Developing an emotional and connective approach to your rope style

  • Introduction to Japanese aesthetics in shibari and how to create the emotional expirence for the bottom (“the why we tie”)

Module Two/Evolution:
We will continue with more advanced floor ties and introduce the iconic Japanese style chest harness known as the TK/Gote Shibari. This harness  is a necessary component and requirement for learning how to do a successful and safe suspension. This Module will include

  • We discuss arm anatomy and physiology, how to locate the radial nerve, injuries that can be sustain in the TK/Gote harness during a rope session

  • safety hand checks and exercises with verbal/non verbal communication skills for the top and bottom

  • Learn the engineering principles require to creating a structurally sound two-rope chest harness/Gote

  • Proper arm positions behind the back to accomodate different bodies and

  • Introduction to the the 3-rope Gote/TK: It’s purpose for undedstanding structure, felling and aesthetics

Module Three/From the Ground Up: In this series of classes we will introduce the concept of a partial suspension as the first step toward learning full suspension. This is a step that many students skip as they rush to learn suspension and miss out on the joy that comes from partial suspensions.

  • Selecting Gear

  • Evaluating and setting up hard-points

  • Safety Issues and how to mitigate problems as they arise during a suspension

  • Main/upline and locking techniques for a safer suspension

  • Line management skills for more efficient and effective flow while tying

  • Exploring several partial suspension positing, poses and variations

  • The concept of Semenawa which translated as rope suffering. This approach use rope as tool to create an emotional, somatic and cathartic expeience for the person being tied.

Module Prerequisites: Students should be able to tie a proper single column tie, two-rope TK/Gote Shibari (chest harness)

Module Four/Taking Flight:
In this course will progress to learning several suspension form

The concept of Semenawa
