Kanso is a Bay Area-based Kinbaku artist, performer, and kink/sex-positive educator, with training in martial arts, dance, and movement education. He was first introduced to the seductive world of Japanese rope bondage in 2006, while attending a stage performance in Japan. He has taught and performed at numerous music festivals, art venues, and kink events across the U.S. He offers private rope sessions, private rope lessons, and group classes in the Bay Area.

In 2017 Kanso started the Rope Circle, with the aim to make shibari education more accessible and to raise awareness around sensation play (kink) and sexuality.

“Being a person with a deep desire to express both the sensual and sadistic realms, Shibari/Kinbaku has allowed me to channel both into more creative and aesthetic practice.

When I tie, my intention is about engaging the senses and taking my partner on a journey. I’m feeding off their reactions and changing the story with a few twists for those that have been tied before. That subtle understanding of the human condition, the reading of expressions, the emotional unwinding and the sounds they make, feed my passion for practicing this art. Sometimes calm then building up to a crescendo, a pause then the revelation.

For me, the essence of shibari/kinbaku lies in combining the emotional or erotic intention of the practice and the aesthetic expression that can be achieved with the rope. The more we practice and develop our tying skills and sense of presence the more seamlessly those parts can be integrated.”
