Please read this FAQ before booking!

Who is a good candidate for a session?

  • Adults who are interested in exploring this experience.

  • All genders and body types are welcome.

How do we set up the session?

  • We start with a 30-minute conversation over tea in which we cover desires, expectations, past injuries, trauma, and how to communicate in rope verbally and non-verbally.

  • We will check the nerves in your arms for proper rope placement.

  • I usually play sensual music during the session, but you have the option of no music or your own playlist.

What kind of sensations will I feel during the session?

  • The feeling of being restrained is a big part of the shibari experience. At times this can feel meditative and relaxing, like a caressing embrace.

  • Once we move into suspension the sensation can be intense physically, and even painful, depending on the person and position. For some, pain is arousing. For others the intensity brings mental clarity. Pain is often a part of the experience, but the degree of intensity will depend upon what you desire and what was agreed on at the beginning of the session. There is always the option to stop the process at any time.

  • I have yet to come across anyone who felt claustrophobic from shibari. Rather, people tend to describe feeling a sense of freedom or flow in their experience of surrender.

  • Sex is never a part of my rope journey.

Do I need to have experience with rope bondage?

  • No prior rope experience is required. I have worked with both experienced and inexperienced people.

The safety factor during the journey

  • Consenting to be tied always comes with a certain amount of risk!
With clear communication and awareness, the risks are significantly minimized.

  • Before the session starts we will discuss personal limits, boundaries, past injuries, and how to avoid injury.

  • It’s common for there to be some physical side effects afterward, such as a bruise where a knot dug in, some lightly abraded skin, rope marks, tender muscles, or stiffness.

Is the session sexual in nature?

  • Shibari can be a sensual or sexual practice, based on the intention that is set by both parties. My sessions don’t include sex and are purely sensual in nature. My intention is to create a safe space for you to experience physical and emotional release.

Can I bring a partner or friend to watch?

  • Sessions are usually a one-on-one experience. Having others around can be distracting,  but I’m open to allowing a partner or friend be present under certain circumstances. If you are worried about going alone let's talk about options that will make you feel more secure.

What should I wear for my journey?

  • I always recommend choosing something that will make you feel comfortable. Some folks prefer to wear underwear, a bra, tank top, shorts or leggings. Some folks prefer to be naked. The choice of what to wear will be left up to you.

Can photos be taken during the journey?

  • If you would like photos to be taken please let me know before the session and I will capture several shots when the moment is right. I don’t recommend that photos be the focus of the session unless you’re hiring me specifically for an artistic photoshoot.

Is there aftercare?

  • If a particular type of aftercare is needed after the journey, we can discuss it before we start. This could be some kind of physical touch, a moment of silence, or a conversation about what came up for you during your experience.

  • It can also be helpful to have a brief check-in with you during the days that follow.

How can I book a session with you?

  • Send me an email from the contact page. Please include a little bit about yourself and what you are looking for in a session. For more info about my rates please send me a message.
